Piedmont College Theatre presents comedy farce, ‘The Foreigner’

Piedmont College theatre students Tyler Vandiver, Brecken Watts, and Milner Martin rehearse a scene from the upcoming production of ‘The Foreigner.’

Piedmont College Theatre continues its 2016-2017 season with Larry Shue’s comedy, “The Foreigner,” opening Feb. 9.

Set in a Georgia fishing lodge, the laughs pile up after one guest, Charlie, is mistakenly believed to be a “foreigner” who does not speak English. The other guests feel free to pour out their souls to Charlie, who must pretend not to understand their confessions. Beneath the comedy, “The Foreigner” explores the search for self-awareness and the journey that every human being must face to have a bountiful life. Whether native born or a “foreigner” from an exotic country, one must discover who they truly are as a person.

“Each character is foreign to themselves in one way or another, and as the play progresses each character discovers more about their own self,” said director John F. Spiegel. “We really want to express the important fact that all of the characters throughout the show are ‘foreigners’ in their own way.” On the one hand discoveries are wonderful; on the other hand, is it possible for someone to discover too much? What secrets will unfold in the heart of the lodge? Join the cast of “The Foreigner” to reveal the mysteries.

Performances are 7:30 p.m., Feb. 9–11; and 2 p.m., Feb. 12 on the Swanson Center Mainstage.

Adult tickets are $10; senior/student tickets are $5; and Piedmont College faculty, staff, and students are admitted free.

Tickets can be ordered online at piedmont.edu/fa or by calling the Box Office at 706-778-8500 ext.1355.
