It’s been two weeks since the historic Cornelia Community House flooded and now work is underway to repair the damage.

Crumbled ceiling tiles and flooded floors were left behind when the building’s sprinkler system activated on January 10 due to an overheated HVAC unit.
Contractors had to dry out the building before they could asses the damage and begin work on repairs. The repair work started on Monday, January 23. It’s expected to take approximately four weeks, according to Cornelia City Manager Dee Anderson.
Anderson says the estimated cost of repairs is between $40,000 and $50,000. He says insurance will cover all but the city’s $1,000 deductible.
