Baldwin approves funding for upgrades to cemetery and Farmer’s Market

The Baldwin City Council has approved more than $72,000 in funding for improvement projects and services. The council approved the expenditures during a special called meeting on Thursday.

Council Member Joe Elam made a motion to approve an amount “not to exceed” $59,359 for the Baldwin Cemetery Fence, brick columns, cemetery sign and concrete driveway, according to City Clerk Denise Williams. The project will be paid for with Special Local Option Sales Tax dollars from Banks County. The motion passed on a 4-0 vote.

Habersham County SPLOST funds will be used to pay for a fence and columns at the Farmer’s Market in Baldwin. Council approved up to $11,412.38 for the project. The city will use money from SPLOST VI to pay for it.

The council also unanimously approved a motion by council member Theron Ayers to spend $1,655 to hire Turner Land Surveying for survey services.

The total amount of expenditures approved Thursday night is $72,426.38.
