Wreck sends 2 to hospital; driver charged with DUI

A 21-year old Alto man is charged with DUI in connection with a wreck that injured two people on Monday. It happened around 3 p.m. on the Highway 441 Bypass near Baldwin.

Ramon Perez-Franquez was driving a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon north on US 441/GA 15 when he lost control of the car in a curve, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The car’s left tires traveled into the median. Perez-Franquez overcorrected and traveled off the east side of the road. The car hit a ditch and overturned. It traveled down an embankment and struck several tress before stopping.

Two passengers in the car were transported to Habersham Medical Center for treatment of injuries. They’re identified as Precios Franquez and Nicole Franquez of Alto. A third passenger, Tina Tate of Alto, was uninjured.

GSP reports Perez-Franquez suffered minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital. He’s charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane, and no proof of insurance.
