In a continued effort by the Piedmont College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) to give back to the surrounding community, more than 100 boxes were assembled by the student-led organization for Operation Christmas Child prior to final exams in preparation for the holiday season.
“This was a fantastic holiday project idea brought to our department by the student-athletes involved in S.A.A.C.,” said Jim Peeples, Piedmont Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. “Our student-athletes continue to be active in our local community in the hopes that giving back will help bring joy to the families involved in this holiday season.”
Initiated by the S.A.A.C. who also participates in two conference-wide projects each year, the project features boxes stuffed with small items for girls and boys of varying ages across the world. The project is meant to help those children around the globe who may not receive a gift this holiday season with the boxes shipped to more than 100 countries throughout the world.
“This was an awesome project to be involved with,” said Piedmont volleyball player and S.A.A.C. member Haley Hixon. “I’m really proud of the S.A.A.C. members across our athletic department for volunteering to help, and I’m happy that I could have a hand in such a worthy cause.”
The local collection from Piedmont student-athletes and members of the S.A.A.C. began a few weeks prior to the donation turned in before Thanksgiving with Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jim Peeples helping some of Piedmont’s S.A.A.C. members to deliver the items to churches in the surrounding area.
More than 100 boxes were assembled by the Piedmont S.A.A.C. with the 19 athletic programs all chipping in to help those in need.
The project is another example of the community outreach from Piedmont student-athletes who have already participated in a Cans Across the Conference initiative to go with several other program specific community service projects.
