An Atlanta woman is charged with DUI in connection with a wreck in Mt. Airy that seriously injured a Toccoa man.
The accident happened Tuesday at 5:24 p.m. at the intersection of GA 365 and GA 197. A Mercury Mariner driven by 59-year old Mildred Payne McKenzie of Atlanta rear-ended a BMW stopped in traffic, according to the Georgia State Patrol. After impact the BMW rotated into the right lane of GA 365 facing south.
The driver of the BMW, 51-year old Robert Clark Spartin, suffered serious injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
McKenzie was transported to Habersham County Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries. In addition to DUI, she’s charged with following too closely and serious injury by vehicle.
