Griffin-Taylor named Piedmont police chief

Marie Griffin-Taylor assumes her duties as Piedmont College's new Police Chief on Dec. 5, 2016.

J. Marie Griffin-Taylor, formerly a deputy sheriff and school resource officer with the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and an officer with the Clarkesville Police Department, will begin her new job as chief at for the Piedmont Demorest and Athens campuses on Dec. 5.

Griffin-Taylor also has worked as an officer with the Habersham County Board of Education and with the Mt. Airy Police Department. She earned a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from Columbus State University and a master’s degrees in public administration from Walden University.

Ken Jones, Vice President for Administration and Finance at Piedmont, said the college interviewed many candidates for the position. “All of them displayed great willingness and the ability to be a great leader, but unfortunately we could only select one person for the position,” Jones said. “We are glad that Officer Griffin-Taylor has agreed to join us here at Piedmont. I am sure her experience in police work and in administration will be a plus for the college.”

Griffin-Taylor takes over from interim Police Chief Dick Martin, who will continue to work part-time in the department.
