Public helps identify suspects in identity theft case

Investigators have identified two women who were considered suspects in an identity theft case spanning several counties. One woman has been ruled out as a suspect, the other faces arrest.

The women and a vehicle captured on surveillance tape at Walmart were identified after their photos were circulated early Tuesday through social media and local news outlets.

“Thanks to the overwhelming response from the citizens of Habersham County, Investigator Mike Free has advised that both females have been identified,” states a press release issued by the Sheriff’s Office late Tuesday afternoon.

“This case went very fast today,” says Deputy Justin Williams who manages the department’s Facebook page. “Within a few hours of posting on Facebook, we had the truck identified along with both females.”

Williams says Free was able to obtain a location on the woman seen dressed in black, pushing a shopping cart out of the store. He says warrants will be issued for her arrest. He adds, “We would like to thank the citizens of Habersham County for their help in solving this case.”
