Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (H.E.A.T.) Grant to be used for education and enforcement
The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office recently received a $5,2072.20 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).
The grant, which will continue through September of 2017, will help finance the Habersham Sheriff’s Office H.E.A.T. Unit to help reduce traffic crash injuries and deaths within Habersham County and the State of Georgia.
“The money will be used to fund the H.E.A.T. unit for traffic safety education material, traffic enforcement equipment and the unit’s equipment upkeep,” says HCSO Lt. Floyd Canup. “It is important to Habersham County because we have a corridor to North Carolina and the unit helps reduce injury and fatal crashes along that corridor.”
GOHS Director Harris Blackwood says the grant program is part of the state’s ongoing effort to improve highway safety in Georgia. “The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is committed to keeping everyone safe on our roads and highways, from the smallest precious cargo to the most seasoned drivers.”
