The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has released the 2016 Academic All-District teams in both men’s and women’s soccer with CHASE KANE of the Piedmont men’s soccer team and Lady Lion SAVANNAH CASTLES both making the prestigious listing.
Both players will now be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-American status by virtue of their selection to the Academic All-District teams with Castles having the opportunity to join three other Lady Lions who have earned Academic All-American honors in the past.
If selected in the Academic All-American listing set for release November 18, Kane would become the first men’s soccer player to do so.
Castles is tied for the top of the scoring column for the Lady Lions with her eight goals in 2016 with four of those being gamewinners, all of which came in conference play. Castles was also named 1st Team All-Conference in the West Division of the USA South earlier today as well taking a spot in the midfield section of the awards listing.
Majoring in Exercise and Sports Science with a minor in Health, Nutrition, & Wellness, Castles is a 6-time Dean’s Scholar at Piedmont and also has earned USA South Academic All-Conference honors three times as well.
Like Castles, Kane sits atop the scoring list for the Lions but is the lone leader with his nine goals on the year while he also leads PC with his 20 overall points. Kane has started in all 17 games this season for Piedmont a year after earning his first USA South All-Conference honor and leads the Lions into postseason play on Saturday.
Majoring in Art and Graphic Design, Kane is a three-time AD Honor Roll member and also earned USA South Academic All-Conference accolades this past year as well.
Kane and Castles were selected for this year’s Capital One Academic All-District honors through voting by CoSIDA members in District V, which encompasses Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
