Marshall found guilty in local motorcyclist’s death

64-year old Ruby Marshall of Cornelia is charged with first-degree vehicular homocide in the death of Jerald Freeman.

A Habersham County woman is in jail awaiting sentencing after being convicted in the death of 47-year old Jerald Freeman of Cornelia.

Ruby Marie Marshall was found guilty last week by a Hall County jury on two counts of 1st degree vehicular homicide, one count of 2nd degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and hit and run.

She was taken into custody after court proceedings ended on Oct. 20th and is now being held in the Hall County Detention Center.

Marshall was charged in Freeman’s death on Oct. 30, 2014 nearly three weeks after his lifeless body was discovered in a ravine off Pea Ridge Road in Hall County.

The initial investigation by the Georgia State Patrol indicated Freeman accidentally ran off the road but after witnesses came forward it was ruled a hit and run. The investigation showed that the then-64-year old Marshall crossed the center line and forced Freeman’s motorcycle off the road. She left the scene without rendering aid or calling for help.

Jerald Freeman was thrown from his bike and suffered a broken neck. His brother discovered his body the next day, less than two miles from Jerald’s home.

A sentencing date for Marshall has not yet been announced.
