Piedmont College hosts ‘Great Decisions’

The Great Decisions foreign policy discussion group will begin its 46th year at Piedmont College in January. Anyone interested in discussing U.S. foreign policy in a cordial and non-partisan environment is invited to attend.

The initial organizational meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, in the Alumni Room of the Arrendale Library on the Piedmont campus in Demorest. The meetings usually last about one-and-a-half hours, and sessions are led by one or more of the group’s participants or by invited guests

Discussion of topics will begin at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 17. Meetings will continue at the same time for eight or more weeks, depending on the interests of the participants. The group will not meet during the week of Feb. 26.

Planned topics for Great Decisions 2017 include “The Future of Europe,” “Trade and Politics,” “Conflict in the South China Sea,” “Saudi Arabia in Transition,” “U.S. Foreign Policy and Petroleum,” “Latin America’s Political Pendulum,” “Prospects for Afghanistan and Pakistan,” “Nuclear Security,” and other topics of interest to the group.

Those interested in purchasing an eight-chapter briefing book prepared by the nonpartisan Foreign Policy Association may send a check made out to Piedmont College for $25 per book by Dec. 5, 2016, to Dr. Mark Gardner, Professor of Economics (retired), c/o Piedmont College Walker School of Business, P.O.
