A blistering 4-1 start to the 2016 season seems a distant memory when the past two games have gone the other way for Habersham, and the Raiders know that there’s no better time than tonight to get that first region win.
With three games remaining and only four of the six teams in the region allotted a space in the state playoffs, it’s not a “must-win” situation for Habersham – yet. But a win tonight would greatly improve its chances on grabbing one of those four spots for next month’s state tournament. The Raiders fell at region powerhouse Lanier last week by a 31-9 score, coming one week after a tough loss 24-7 to Gainesville.
Habersham Central looks to right the ship with Dacula coming into Mt. Airy for a region contest that proves to be pivotal for both teams, who have split the all-time series 2-2. Habersham has won the last two during the years of Tavarres King, taking a 42-7 win in 2007 and 20-14 win in 2006. Dacula won the get-together in 1998 and 1999.
Dacula (3-4; 2-0) could punch a ticket to state with a win, so the game means just as much to them. They are coming off two straight wins after starting the season 1-4. Head coach Tommy Jones is in his fourth year at Dacula, taking them to state in 2013 and 2014. Jones previously was head coach at Lumpkin County from 2006-2012.
