Habersham Central notched its first volleyball state playoff appearance since 2012 with a fantastic showing at the region tournament, and one of its seniors was a key reason why.
Senior right hitter Gracie Charles was named the BLITZ Player of the Week after a great showing on and off the court for the Lady Raiders in last weekend’s region tournament.
Charles played solid and consistent volleyball throughout the duration of the tournament. She racked up four aces, 13 kills, 26 digs and 47 serve-receive attempts with only two errors.
Head coach Lindsay Herrin was thrilled with Charles’ performance. “Gracie was serving during our first match of the tournament when we were facing a 22-15 deficit in the third set. She brought us back into contention and we ended up winning that set and the match. There were many other instances when we had a hard time breaking the opponent’s serve and Gracie would make a pass that led to the perfect set, then kill. She also was responsible for getting her team to regain focus many times. She led us vocally and through her play over the two days of tournament play.”
The Lady Raiders (23-7) play host to Richmond Hill at Habersham Central on Thursday, October 13.
