Twin Rivers Challenge registration underway

Special guest riders and competitive climbs added for 2016

More than 65 corporate, organization and individual sponsors are now confirmed for the upcoming Twin Rivers Challenge cycling event hosted by Tallulah Falls School. The event is a major fundraiser for student scholarships.

“Excitement is growing about our second annual cycling event,” said President and Head of School Larry A. Peevy. “Most of our first year sponsors increased their commitment this year and we’ve added many new sponsors. We very much appreciate the show of support of our mission to elevate character and intellect; we look forward to greeting our riders on Oct. 29.

New for 2016 is the addition of two very special guests – TFS Alum Chris Pic, class of 1988, and his wife, Tina Pic. Chris is a former professional cyclist and Tina Pic currently competes on the professional circuit. “We are thrilled to have this couple join us to lead our riders onto the route,” Peevy said. “Chris is a wonderful example of a strong leader nurtured by the dedicated education professionals who invest in our students. We know this couple’s participation will be a great addition to our special event.”

Last year, many of the riders expressed appreciation for the post-ride experience, with a meal provided along with a warm serving of TFS hospitality. This year, live bluegrass music, performed by the Tallulah Falls Opry, will enhance time spent with friends after the challenge of the ride.

“The Twin Rivers Challenge was the best inaugural race/ride that I’ve ever participated in,” said Shawn Carter, a 2015 rider. “It is now one of my favorite benefit bike rides ever. Small things made such a difference. All SAG stops were well-stocked and supported. Student-athletes from the school manned the SAG stations, an extra touch to prove they appreciate our efforts to support them. The post-ride meal prepared by the school [dining hall] staff was incredible. Every single detail of the event, from major to minor, was well worth it and more than enough reason to return year after year.”

About the ride

The Twin Rivers Challenge is an autumn ride through some of Northeast Georgia’s most spectacular scenery and follows routes carefully planned by an avid local cyclist. This high-profile Northeast Georgia cycling experience is expected to attract more than 200 riders this year.

Cyclists will have the choice of four challenging and scenic routes – 115K, 100K, 72K and 37K. Three King/Queen of the Mountain segments are also being planned, with prizes awarded to the first male/female rider to reach each summit. The ride will begin and end on the campus of Tallulah Falls School with routes taking riders through both Habersham and Rabun counties and across two rivers – Tallulah and Soque.

All rides will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 29. Registration opens at 7 a.m. Parking is located directly in front of the Tallulah Falls School upper school classroom building. Registration on the day of the event will be in the TFS upper school classroom lobby. SAG stops will be available at regular intervals along the selected route. A post-ride meal will be provided for all riders.
