GA State Legislature convenes today

capitolHabersham County’s legislative delegation is back in Atlanta under the gold dome today for the start of the 153rd Georgia General Assembly.

State Representatives Terry Rogers (R-Clarkesville), Dan Gasaway (R-Homer) and State Senator John Wilkinson (R-Toccoa) all say transportation will be the big issue lawmakers must deal with, in particular, how to cover a projected $1-1.5 billion gap in state transportation funding over the next several years.

Other issues on the docket include education funding, Common Core, medical marijuana and local bills introduced by Gasaway and Rogers on no knock warrants and stolen valor, respectively.

The forty-day session runs through late March.
