Ralph E. White, age 95, of Alto, Georgia, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016.
Mr. White was born on December 1, 1920, in Banks County, Georgia, to the late Hubert C. and Cora Jordan White. Ralph entered into 1st Grade at Allandale School in 1926; from there he attended Rock Springs School in 1929 up to 7th Grade, then attended Hickory Flat School. He went on to graduate from Lula High School. In the fall of 1939, he enrolled at Piedmont College. After serving in World War II, he resumed his studies at Piedmont College while working at Gold’s Department Store. Mr. White graduated from Piedmont College in 1949.
Mr. White started teaching at Hickory Flat School where he taught from 1951-1952. He went on to teach at Gillsville School in 1952 and remained there until its consolidation. Once Gillsville School consolidated, he moved to Banks County High School where he served as Assistant Principal until retirement.
Ralph was part of a country music band called The Happy Highway Boys in the late 30’s and early 40’s. They had a program on the Gainesville and Toccoa Radio Stations, and also recorded on the Blue Bird Record Label.
He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church where he taught the Adult Sunday School Class for a number of years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 73 years: Maybelle Goodson White, Alto; son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Max and Dr. Jeanne Vosecky White, Alto; grandchildren and spouses: Dr. Douglas W. and Mallory White, Jacksonville, AL and David M. and Jessica White, Dayton, TN; and two great-grandchildren: Katie and Daniel White, Dayton, TN. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Rev. James Duncan and Deacon William Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Wynn Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia.
