In its history, Habersham Central had owned White County through four meetings. Things changed when the Warriors won the 2012 and 2013 matchups by a combined 66-14. But this is a new era of Raiders football.
The Raiders take on White County on the road in Cleveland tonight at 7:30, fresh off a bye week and after their Week 0 easy win over a solid East Hall team. The Raiders, led by head coach Benji Harrison, will look to continue their winning ways and will seek to break a two-game losing streak to the Warriors. White County is 0-1 after a 26-7 loss to Franklin and last week’s no-contest at Lumpkin, where the game was called after seven minutes of scoreless play due to lightning.
In 2012, White County shut out the Raiders 31-0 on Habersham’s field, and followed that up with a 35-14 win at White County the following year. Habersham Central had won the first four meetings in the series by a combined score of 119-57, all four being played in the 1990’s.

Michael Babers is off to his expected start, after rushing for 183 yards and three touchdowns in the opener. Babers and fellow seniors Jake Jones (78 rec yds, TD, 6 tkl) and QB Cole Wilbanks (175 yds, 2 TD) will look to move to 2-0 for the first time since 1990. That is shocking considering that the Raiders didn’t even accomplish that in the Tavarres King days of the 2006 (10-3) and 2007 (11-2) seasons.
Highlights will be provided late Friday night, perhaps closer to the official turn of the clock to Saturday. But stay tuned for what’s sure to be a great game for Habersham Central.
