Blue Ridge Labor Day weekend events

Family fun for a worthwhile cause

The community is invited to celebrate Labor Day weekend in downtown Blue Ridge from September 3 through September 5, 2016. Events will include PIC-NIC-NAC, Community Worship and the annual Labor Day Bar-B-Q, all sponsored by Good Samaritans of Fannin County, Inc.

“This year marks the 36th year of the Labor Day Bar-B-Q, and Good Samaritans of Fannin County welcomes everyone to downtown Blue Ridge,” said Carlie Hammond, CEO of Good Samaritans.  “This will be an exciting holiday weekend full of fellowship, food, music, and fun for the whole family to enjoy.”

Schedule of Events – all located in the park in downtown Blue Ridge:

Saturday, September 3 – “PIC-NIC-NAC”- 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.:

Breakfast and lunch concessions will be available for guests to enjoy as they PIC-NIC in the park. Attendees are also welcome to rummage through tables to discover NIC-NACS offered by churches, nonprofits, and local artists and crafters.  Anyone wishing to have a table must contact Hope at (404) 510-4673.  Churches and nonprofits – 10 percent of profits will be accepted as a donation to Good Samaritans.  Local artists and crafters – a $15 fee will be charged per table.  Exhibitors must provide their own tables; however, tents will already be in place for Monday’s Bar-B-Q to protect guests and vendors from the weather.

Sunday, September 4 – Community Worship – 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.:

Enjoy an outdoor Community Worship Service, which will be immediately followed by an old fashioned Ice Cream Social. Pastors from Good Samaritan-participating churches will take part in the service and song leaders will guide a spirited congregational singing.   Stay after the worship service to visit with old friends or make new ones while enjoying ice cream provided by the Blue Ridge Dairy Queen Grill & Chill.

Monday, September 5 – Labor Day Bar-B-Q – 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.:

Monday, Sept 5, marks the 36th annual Good Samaritans Labor Day Bar-B-Q.  Bring your lawn chair and enjoy dinner on the grounds while listening to gospel and blue grass music.  Meal pricing is determined by your choice of meat:  St. Louis Style Pork Ribs ($13), chicken ($10), or pulled pork sandwich ($9).  Dinner plates include all the fixins – baked beans, bread, no-mayo pepper slaw, pickles, iced tea, a crisp Mercier’s apple and homemade brownie or pound cake for dessert.  Presale tickets are available from participating churches, the Fannin Chamber of Commerce on Orvin Lance Drive, American Wholesale Print Shop on Appalachian Hwy/515 East, BB&T, Community and Southern Bank and United Community Banks.

Limited quantities of whole chickens, racks of ribs, pork butts and our signature barbecue sauce will be for sale while supplies last at prices determined by market costs.  The Labor Day Bar-B-Q also offers drive-thru service on the day of the event.  Cars should enter along East Main St and exit via Summit St to old Hwy 76/East 1st St.  For GPS directions: 906 E Main Street in Blue Ridge.
