Joao Costa scored three straight goals and Jonathan Salgado added a fourth as the Truett McConnell men’s soccer team got past Brewton-Parker Saturday afternoon, 4-3.
After falling behind 2-0 early, Costa got the Bears (1-0) on the board with a shot to the upper left to bring the game to its halftime score of 2-1.
In the 47th minute, Costa earned a penalty kick, which he sent right past the Baron goalie on the left side to knot the game at two apiece. Six minutes later, Costa took a beautiful pass from Cyril Gadu and scored his third goal on an open net.
The Bears scored their final goal in the 78th minute as Jonathan Salgado put a goal home on the right side to extend the lead to 4-2. The Barons would add one more and have many more attacks, but TMU held them off to hold on to the 4-3 victory.
Borja Gonzalez scored all three goals for the Barons.
The Bears will host Martin Methodist next Saturday at the TMU Soccer Complex with kickoff set for 3 p.m.
