Last Friday night was great, but there’s more action this week in Week 1, the week in which more teams play than did in Week 0. Highlighting Friday’s matchups will be a rivalry that dates back to the early ’60s in White County and Lumpkin County.

In a rivalry that dates back to the early ’60s (1964 to be exact), the series between White County and Lumpkin County has been dominated by the Warriors, who hold the edge 34-11-1 all-time. White County has won seven of the past eight meetings between the two teams, most recently in 2013 by a 31-0 score. Lumpkin’s last win over the Warriors came in 2011.
White County is coming off a Week 0 26-7 loss at Franklin County, while Lumpkin will start a season with a new head coach (Shane Williamson) for the fourth time in five seasons. The Indians made the state playoffs in 2014 despite finishing with a 5-6 overall record, while the Warriors made it to the playoffs in four out of five years from 2010-2014, missing out in only 2011. White County was 3-7 last season, while Lumpkin went 2-8.
Players to watch include Lumpkin SR Zach Matthews, a solid back who is sure to get his yardage for the Indians.
