(Clarkesville, GA) —Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church in Young Harris, Ga., recently donated $5202.37 from their annual rummage sale to the North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) Foundation.
According to Cynthia Brown, Director of the NGTC Foundation, the funds will be used to provide scholarships for tuition, books and fees for NGTC students from Towns County with demonstrated financial need. A portion of the donation also will be used to cover GED administrative testing fees for Towns County students needing financial assistance.
“We are so grateful for this donation for our college students,” says Brown. “These women, along with other donors, make it possible for students to start or continue their education, graduate and go to work. This education can really change not only their individual lives, but their families’ lives and their community, too.”
The Missions Committee of Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church has made annual donations to the NGTC Foundation since 2010.
Since August 2009, the NGTC Foundation has provided 1,771 students scholarships totaling $514,650. The NGTC Foundation Lending Library has provided 729 students with $94,920 worth of books that are used for a semester, returned to the library and checked out to other students for the next session. GED testing scholarships have been awarded to 704 applicants at a cost of $62,827. No funds go directly to students; they must have documented need and use all available financial aid prior to receiving assistance from the NGTC Foundation. The Foundation is a 501C3 non-profit organization and all funds come from donations. Out of every $100 given to the Foundation, $98.91 goes directly to students.
