(Cleveland)- A 15- boy was seriously injured Monday evening as a result of a bicycle accident in Cleveland. The accident occurred on ABC Drive, which is located behind White County Middle School. Officials are not sure exactly when the accident occurred, but believe it to be somewhere around 5:30 PM.
Cleveland Police Chief John Foster said, it appears that the youth had left Mountain Education Center School and was going down a hill on the road, “ he may have had a malfunction on his bicycle, we’re not sure right now, he left the right hand side of the road went airborne for 20-25 feet and hit down in the creek, said Foster.
The chief said there are several large rocks in the area where the accident occurred and he possibly suffered severe head injuries.
According to Chief Foster two boys discovered the accident, he said, “there was a couple of boys walking by and heard him call out, asking for help, and they checked on him located him and then called 9-1-1.” It’s believed the victim had been in the ravine for about two hours.
White County and Cleveland fire personnel along with White County Emergency Medical personnel got the victim out and he was transported to the Atlanta Medical Center by a medical helicopter.
The accident remains under investigation by the Cleveland Police Department.
