Perhaps no surprise, Raiders’ power running back Michael Babers’ three-touchdown clinic Friday at Banks County earned him a BLITZ Player of the Week Award.
Babers appears primed for yet another elite season, ripping off unofficially 140 yards on 14 carries. Stats were estimated but were not kept during Habersham Central’s 28-9 win over the Leopards. The senior piled on two touchdowns in the first half and added a third in the second half en route to the win.
“Mike seemed to have picked up where he left off last year,” exclaimed coach Benji Harrison. “He ran extremely hard and patient. Obviously, he is a big part of our offense and will continue to be so throughout the season.”
Babers put up 1,264 yards in 2015, averaging 6.1 yards per tote and scoring 16 touchdowns. He added four more TD catches to go with 163 receiving yards. As a sophomore in 2014, he tallied 947 yards and 10 TD.
