An 18-year old driver is charged with underage DUI in connection with a single-car accident in Mt. Airy that injured him and three other teens.
The accident happened around 5 a.m. Tuesday on Lake Russell Road at the Lake Russell Recreation Area.
According to a report from the Georgia State Patrol, Matthew Tyler Blake Groover was negotiating a curve when the car he was driving crossed the roadway, ran off the opposite shoulder of the road and hit a National Forestry gate. The impact caused the car to spin and it came to an “uncontrolled final rest” on the west shoulder of the road facing east.
Groover and his three passengers were all transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. The report does not detail the extent of their injuries.
In addition to the DUI under 21 charge, Groover is charged with failure to maintain lane, no seatbelt, too fast for conditions, open container, and minor in possession of alcoholic beverage.
A male and female passenger, both 17, both face charges for underaged possession of alcohol and not wearing their seatbelts. A third teen, a 17-year old male, was not charged in connection with the wreck.
