A Cornelia woman is charged with DUI in connection with an accident that injured her and another driver and tied up traffic on GA 365 in Alto for several hours on Friday.

A report from the Georgia State Patrol says 45-year old Rachel Spivey was traveling east on Crane Mill Road in a 2006 Acura. She had just stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with GA 365 when she then “failed to yield” and pulled into the path of a southbound truck.

The driver of the truck, 51-year old Harrison White of Temple, Georgia, told authorities he tried to brake “but was unable to avoid impact”. The 1998 Peterbilt Conventional truck White was driving then struck the left rear of the Acura causing Spivey’s car to rotate onto the shoulder of the road. The truck ran off the road into the median of GA 365 and overturned.

Both drivers were transported by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

In addition to DUI, Spivey is charged with serious injury by vehicle and failure to yield.

The accident happened around 10 a.m. The scene was cleared and traffic was flowing again by 12:40 a.m.
