United Way to kick off annual campaign with Art In The Park August 27th

Help the Habersham County United Way “Paint a Brighter Tomorrow” for our community

The Habersham County United Way will kick off its 2016 Annual Campaign at the Cornelia Depot and Splash Park on Saturday, August 27, 2016 from 11 AM-1 PM.

The event, Art In The Park- A Community Celebration marks the start of United Way’s annual fundraising effort and gives the organization an opportunity to educate the public on the needs in our community, as well as thank local companies, donors and volunteers for their generosity and commitment to our community.

The 2016 Campaign fundraising goal is $575,000.

Family Fun Fest to be replaced by series of fundraisers

Normally, at this time of year, the United Way Board is busy planning for the Family Fun Fest event which served as its annual campaign kick-off, and which was traditionally held at the end of August; however, after careful consideration at its recent board retreat, the United Way Board of Directors decided that its energies would be better utilized by focusing on a series of fundraising efforts rather than the Family Fun Fest annual kickoff event. In this regard, the Board is excited to start this year’s campaign by hosting the Art In The Park event which will be free of charge to all who attend and participate.

As the year progresses, the Board will share with the community the new fundraising events being planned which will take place throughout the fall. More information regarding these events will be shared with the public as the event details are finalized.

At the Art In the Park event the following activities are scheduled to take place: painted thumbprint art, bubble painting, marble painting, fireworks painting, water pistol painting and sidewalk squirty paint. Other activities planned to be included are caricature drawings, face painting, splash park use and a bouncy house.

Community giving

In 2015 United Way funded 25 local agencies which provided (among other needs) food, shelter, healthcare, victim services, and educational assistance. Please know that $.99 every dollar given to the Habersham County United Way stays in our community to support local programs, which in turn supports and helps our neighbors.

“Families in our community depend on health and human service programs to maintain a reasonable quality of life,” said Billy Boyd, Executive Director of the Habersham County United Way. “Those individuals are depending on us to rally local resources to provide the vital services they depend on.”
