Who You Represent

I work mostly as a ghostwriter. Years ago I had the opportunity to write a piece for someone who needed help. She commented that I sounded just like her; that the words on the page were how she thought. It opened a window for me which eventually became a door and my career.

Often when I am working on a project, I close my eyes and focus on the person for whom I am writing. How would he or she say what I wanted to put on the page in front of me. At times it can be challenging, especially when the majority of the people I write for, I do not know at all. I only know them through interviews and lots and lots of questions.

The reason I have endless amount of editing sessions is because I want to represent them well. I want the final project to reflect them.

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God” 2 Corinthians 5:20.

It is similar to our walk with Christ. We are on this earth to represent Him. Sometimes we do a good job and other times…well, let’s just say we miss the mark.

The other day I was in a restaurant. The lady in the booth behind me became upset because her food wasn’t prepared the way she had asked it to be. She sent it back, and she and her husband began to complain about the food, the service, and the whole experience.

I knew her voice. I actually knew her well. It hurt my heart for God because I also knew she was a Christian. How sad God must feel when we misrepresent Him.

We need to be careful how we react and consider carefully how God instructs us to behave. It is important for us to know and understand His Word so that when we are caught in a situation, we will not allow our selfish demands to win out over the love of God.
