Burglary suspects to be transported to Habersham

The two suspects in last month’s burglary at the Fieldale Family Health Center pharmacy in Baldwin remain in the Towns County jail, awaiting transport to Habersham.

22-year old Elliott Mattox and 20-year old Chelsie Hill of Sylva, North Carolina, were arrested Friday, Jan. 2, in Hiawassee. Baldwin Police Chief Chad Nichols says agents with the North Georgia Regional Drug Enforcement Office located and arrested the pair and obtained a search warrant for a residence in Hiawassee where the two had been staying.

Authorities say Elliott Mattox is the suspect seen in video surveillance footage captured the day of the burglary.

The Towns County Sheriff’s Office and Baldwin Police Department helped execute the search warrant. Nichols says officers recovered clothing worn by the suspect seen in surveillance video footage during the Dec. 13 burglary.

Nichols identifies the suspect in the video as Mattox. It’s unclear at this point as to the extent of Hill’s alleged involvement in the burglary. Each are charged with one count of burglary.

The suspect fled the scene with a large quantity of narcotics. Authorities in Georgia and North Carolina are investigating to determine what happened to the stolen drugs.
