Death on Springer Mountain ruled suicide

State investigators have ruled the death of a woman on the Appalachian Trail in Fannin County as suicide.

According to a release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the 26-year old woman’s body was found at a campsite on Springer Mountain on Saturday. The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Forestry Service called in the GBI to investigate.

Both the autopsy and investigation revealed she died as a result of suicide by hanging. Authorities say the woman previously lived in South Carolina.
