An elderly Rabun County woman died in a single-vehicle wreck Monday evening on Highway 28 northeast of Clayton.
The Georgia State Patrol says 86-year-old Lynn Elsner of Clayton was driving a GMC Suburban northbound when she failed to maintain her lane in a curve and ran off the road. The SUV struck an embankment near Warwoman Road, overturned several times, and struck a tree.
Elsner was not wearing her seatbelt, troopers say. She was thrown from the vehicle and sustained fatal head injuries.
The accident happened around 6:45 p.m. on July 18. Troopers from Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa investigated the crash.
