65 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Habersham schools

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Georgia, Habersham County Schools have confirmed 65 active COVID-19 cases in the school system. According to Habersham Schools Director of Nursing and Health Services Crystal Holcomb, there are currently 41 student and 24 staff COVID-19 cases.

There are currently 7,403 students enrolled in Habersham County Schools and 1,148 staff members. Unlike last year, the school system will not be reporting daily COVID-19 totals on their website. Instead, Holcomb will collect and compile data on Fridays.

“In the Habersham County School System, students and staff that test positive for COVID-19 are required to isolate according to public health guidelines,” says Holcomb. “Our school system is also continuing to implement contact tracing to identify those who may have been exposed to the positive person.”

There have been no changes to the school’s COVID-19 policies, but Holcomb continues to remind students, parents and staff to take precautionary measures to prevent the spread.

“I would like to remind students, faculty, staff and parents to continue good hygiene practices like frequent hand washing,” Holcomb says. “Parents should continue to monitor the health of their children before sending them to school each day. Students should be free from any COVID-19 symptoms before being placed on a school bus or brought to school. In addition to parent monitoring, middle and high school students should self-monitor before attending school each day. It is important to stay home when you are sick to prevent spreading COVID-19 or other illnesses.”
