A local pastor and his five children are back home in Habersham recovering from injuries they sustained in a wreck Saturday in Cornelia, the family says.

On Sunday, Camp Creek Baptist Church shared a message from the church’s Spanish minister, Jesus Quiles, thanking people for their concern.

“Family and Friends, thank you very much for your calls and texts. We are already home recovering. God is good,” Quiles shared.

The 39-year-old pastor, his wife, and children were traveling on U.S. 441 Business/GA 105 Saturday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. when a pickup truck ran into them. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the Ford F250 struck the Chevrolet Suburban Quiles was driving after failing to yield while leaving the Habersham Hills Shopping Center parking lot.

The Quiles’ 5-year-old daughter suffered a head injury and was airlifted to Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta. She too is back home recovering, friends say.

“Mutual aid for an additional ambulance was requested from Banks County Fire and EMS due to the number of injuries,” Habersham County Emergency Services Fire Captain Matt Ruark says.

EMS transported Quiles and his four other children to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.

The wreck did not injure Quiles’ wife, Samantha, or the pickup truck driver, identified by authorities as 32-year-old Eduardo Ramirez of Baldwin. Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa investigated the wreck. Troopers charged Ramirez with failure to yield.
