Habersham County Animal Care and Control reports another incidence of rabies. It’s the fourth confirmed case of rabies reported in the county in less than a month — the ninth so far this year.
This latest incident involves a skunk that came into contact with a Golden Retriever on Double Bridge Road in Demorest.

The incident happened December 2nd. According to animal control director Madi Hawkins the skunk was sent to the State Lab for testing. Animal control was notified it tested positive late Wednesday.
Hawkins says the dog was current on vaccinations and “will maintain in a 45 day observation period.”
