For Good

Life hurts sometimes…and sometimes, life feels really good.

The other day a friend called me. She told me she just wasn’t happy anymore. And as her tears fell, I knew exactly what she meant. Because, at times, life isn’t happy – it is painful.

Obstacles, harm, grief, disappointment, despair, and betrayal invade the moving parts of our world. One moment we are functioning and the next, news which changes everything, finds us. During those seasons, it is difficult to understand why such should happen to us. But in time, God takes what has occurred and changes our view. That mountain we are asked to climb, suddenly displays a view we would have never seen had we not climbed it. That storm raging through, tossing our boat, rocking our world, produces a spectacular rainbow. That hot, dry desert we are walking through brings springs of cool, refreshing water.

God changes us and our perspective of life. The scars of life can become beautiful and useful in time. The pains of our soul remind us of where we’ve been and where God is taking us.

Peace doesn’t happen without conflict first. Happiness is only understood from sorrow. Light appears from darkness. Comfort comes as relief from fear.

What was meant for evil, God will use for good. (Genesis 50:20).
