3rd annual Christmas event planned for special needs families

Volunteers, donations, toys, and a face-painter, that’s what organizers of this year’s Christmas event for special needs families are asking the community to help provide.

Now in its third year, this annual event provides a stress-free environment for people with special needs and their families to gather to enjoy games, refreshments, gift-giving, and pictures with Santa.

This year’s event will be held Saturday, December 8, from 2-4 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Hillside Baptist Church. The church is located at 324 Level Grove Road in Cornelia

Each family will recieve a free photo with Santa. Each child will recieve a gift from Santa. There will be games, crafts, and refreshments as well. There is no age limit.

The event is free to attend and is open to special needs families both in and outside of Habersham County.

It’s again being organized by Rhonda Stamey who, you may recall, hosted a successful trunk-or-treat for special needs families at the Little League Fields in Clarkesville in October. The success of that event hinged on the support of the local community. Stamey hopes people will again be willing to give.

“The event cost us $500 last year and will cost just as much this year. The money is used to buy gifts, food, and pay for the pictures being developed,” she says.
