31st Annual NEGA MLK Peace Walk & Celebration Jan. 15

This weekend people from across Northeast Georgia are invited to ‘stand in kinship’ during the 31st Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace Walk and Celebration in Cornelia.

The half-mile long walk begins Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Big Red Apple/Historic Train Depot in downtown Cornelia and will end at Shady Grove Baptist Church. The church will host an hour long celebration service followed by a chili and soup reception.

Those unable to walk may go straight to Shady Grove Baptist which is located at 226 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in Cornelia.

Last year’s walk was held in Clarkesville and attracted more than 100 participants.

The annual event is held in conjunction with the national observance of MLK Day. This year the federal holiday falls on Monday, January 16. Habersham County public schools and government offices will be closed.
