3-vehicle accident injures 3 in Cornelia

An SUV running a stop sign set off a chain reaction wreck that injured three people in Cornelia on Wednesday, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The accident happened around 2 p.m. in front of the Dairy Queen at the intersection of GA 105/Historic Hwy. 441 and Yates Street.

In an emailed report, Corporal Casey Coffee with the Patrol Post in Toccoa says 86-year-old Ronald Edward Hooper of Cornelia was driving a 1995 Chevy Blazer east on Yates Street when he failed to stop at the stop sign. Hooper’s Blazer ran into the path of a Honda Accord traveling south on GA 105, striking the Honda in the front right side. The impact caused Hooper’s SUV to overturn.

The report states the Honda, driven by 21-year-old Gelina Faith Nations of Mt. Airy, “then crossed the center of the roadway and entered the northbound lane of GA 105.”

Nations’ vehicle struck the front of a 1994 Buick Century driven by 84-year-old David Eugene White of Cornelia.

Hooper and Nations were injured and taken to Habersham Medical Center for treatment. White suffered a minor injury but was not transported to the hospital.
