The Georgia State Patrol says a 19-year-old driver from Toccoa was following too closely when he rear-ended a pickup, setting off a chain-reaction wreck involving six vehicles.
Wednesday’s crash on Interstate 985 near Friendship Road in Hall County temporarily shut down the interstate’s northbound lanes.
According to state troopers, Hunter Graham Bohannon was driving a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van north on I-985 when he drove up on stopped traffic. The van struck the rear of a GMC Sierra, then struck the rear of a Hyundai Kona. After impact, the van continued traveling into the median where the Mercedes struck a Tesla Model 3 and a Honda Odyssey.
A Hyundai Elantra attempted to avoid the collision and drove onto the grass median, where it struck the rear of the Mercedes.
Three people were transported to the hospital for minor injuries. The state patrol has not released their names.
The wreck remains under investigation.
