A two-vehicle wreck in Baldwin sent three people to the hospital. The crash occurred around 1:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, at the Willbanks Road intersection.

Troopers say James Weaver, 61, of Lula, was driving a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck. He attempted to turn left onto Wilbanks from Hwy. 365 and failed to yield. A southbound Subaru Legacy carrying two people from Massachusetts struck the pickup.

The wreck seriously injured Weaver. The Subaru driver, Daniel Cook, 57, and his passenger, Michelle Sparks, 56, both of North Dartmouth, sustained possible minor injuries.

Ambulances transported the three patients to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.

Troopers from Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa investigated the wreck. According to their preliminary crash report, charges are pending against Weaver.

Another wreck, mere minutes and miles apart

The Wilbanks intersection wreck happened just minutes after a similar wreck less than five miles south at GA 365 and Alto-Mud Creek Road.

State troopers say Devon Pike Hooper, 28, of Mt. Airy, was driving a Honda Civic west on Alto-Mud Creek. As Hooper crossed over GA 365 to turn left into the southbound lanes, he drove into the path of a northbound BMW X3 driven by Sallie Clark, 59, of Suwanee.

The BMW struck the Honda in the left rear, causing the Honda to rotate in the road.

Neither driver was injured. Troopers charged Hooper with failure to yield.
