Two members of a Lula family and a Gainesville man were jailed over the weekend following a road rage incident in North Georgia.
On Sunday evening, April 23, White County deputies responded to a report of gunshots fired on Highway 129 South in the area of Cougar Drive. The shooting stemmed from a road rage incident that began earlier in the day in Lumpkin County, says White County Sheriff Rick Kelley.
According to the sheriff, the initial incident involved a BMW operated by 25-year-old Jorden McKinney of Gainesville and a red Chevrolet truck operated by a 16-year-old juvenile.
“This incident resulted in Jorden McKinney striking the back of the Chevrolet truck with the BMW. Shortly after the collision, a white truck arrived on the scene, occupied by family members of the juvenile driver,” Kelley says.
Those family members are identified as Charles Wayne Ryder, 51, and Charles Dewey Lewis Ryder, 21, both from Lula.
“Charles Dewey Lewis Ryder fired several shots at the BMW as Jorden McKinney drove past them,” says Sheriff Kelley.
After being fired on, McKinney made a U-turn in the BMW, drove back around and struck the white truck, Kelley says. In turn, the white truck, operated by Charles Wayne Ryder, proceeded to ram the BMW, which disabled the vehicle.
Deputies arrested the three men at the scene and transported them to jail. They charged all three with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. In addition, McKinney and Charles Wayne Ryder were both charged with aggravated assault and aggressive driving. Charles Dewey Lewis Ryder was charged with reckless conduct and discharging a firearm near a roadway.
As of late Monday evening, April 24, McKinney and the Ryders remained in the White County Detention Center. Sheriff Kelley says the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are possible.
