It is creative culture meets outstanding restaurants meet unique boutiques. It is the 2nd Annual Art Walk in Historic Gainesville. This free event offers an opportunity to experience original art, local galleries, local artists, and pop-up art shows all in the downtown business area. The Art Council estimates 1000 to attend the event.
On Thursday evening, April 18th, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. enjoy strolling through the downtown square or hop on the Gainesville Trolley. There will be open house-style meet and greets with featured artists. You’ll enjoy refreshments, live music, and specials at various businesses.
Easy ways to get around
The Gainesville Trolley will take you to the four main areas of the historic district. You’ll make stops in Midland, Downtown, Green Street, and Brenau Districts. All Parking Decks are free in Gainesville. They are located at Main Street Parking Deck, 301 Main Street; Hall County Parking Facility, 225 Green Street; North Parking Deck, 130 Main Street.
The event is hosted by Main Street Gainesville, a program focused on economic vitality through Historic Preservation in the downtown commercial districts.
Once you find the perfect parking deck, find the closest Trolley Spot and get started on this exciting art experience. There is an “Art Walk Guide” handout at any of the stops. This guide has a handy “check-off as you go” section so that you will not miss any of the spots. This will help you navigate the many opportunities. If you follow the numbers in a circular pattern, you will have the quickest journey to all the stops. When you get to #18, you can circle back to #1.
Shop the art
The Trolley Spots will have a Yard Sign. Each Art Stop will have a bundle of balloons and window decals to guide you.
Explore the many retail stores and visit the variety of restaurants as you walk around downtown. Some people enjoy mixing it up by riding the Trolley and then walking between areas of town.
