BLITZ has inducted 27 local athletes into its Inaugural Hall of Fame Class of 2016, as voting was open for two days to the public.
In its first year of induction, BLITZ took the top vote-getters in each sport and those who received a high percentage of votes but didn’t get the top spot. Three others were given a producer’s pass to fill out the first class. Beginning in 2017, up to two per sport will be added, and beginning in 2018, only one per sport will be voted in.
Public voting netted many Habersham athletes, including Tavarres King (’08), Haley Gerrin (’13) in both volleyball and basketball, and Lee McCoy (’12). Any athletes among the voting who didn’t make it may still appear next year, as well as some who didn’t appear in this year’s vote. Only athletes since 2009 are considered, and must fall inside the BLITZ coverage area (Habersham, White, Dawson, Lumpkin, Rabun, Banks, Commerce, Union and Towns). King is the only exception due to the fact that BLITZ producers covered his prep career prior to 2009.
