2021 Cannon Classical Music Series at SNCC

Revien, a contemporary chamber ensemble, is one of the groups performing for the Cannon Classical Music Series at Sautee Nacoochee Cultural Center.

The Sautee Nacoochee Center (SNC) has announced the 2021 Cannon Classical Music Series. The 2021 season opens with the Orchestra Noir Quintet from Atlanta on June 20. The Orchestra Noir Quintet concert is scheduled in conjunction with a weekend of events happening on the SNC campus to recognize Juneteenth.

The Cannon Classical Music Series began in 2016 when SNC Performing Arts Director DeDe Vogt approached her friend and classical music aficionado, Helen Cannon, about sponsoring a classical music series at SNC. Ms. Cannon graciously agreed, and the Cannon Classical Music Series began.

Now in its sixth year, the Cannon Classical Music Series enjoys the support of several gracious, local donors and has presented ensembles, soloists and duos from as far away as Hungary, Uruguay, Russia, Asia and, equally rich in talent, Georgia.

The Center Stage Theatre, an intimate, 98-seat theatre in the SNC Cultural Center, has all the earmarks for presenting classical music. It is ideal for ensembles and small audiences, as well as an acoustically friendly setting that has no need for sound re-enforcement.

On July 11, Barbara Luhn of Clarkesville, Director of Music and Pianist at the Nacoochee Presbyterian Church in Sautee, will present a solo piano performance of classical, sacred and popular music.

The September 5 concert features Franklin Pond Chamber Music. Franklin Pond is a youth chamber music program located in Atlanta. This will be the second time Franklin Pond students perform on the Sautee stage.

October 10 brings BellaNota Strings, a string quartet from Atlanta, to the stage. BellaNota was founded in 2017 and has been building a diverse repertoire of songs and developing its own unique and beautiful sound.

Revien, a contemporary chamber ensemble consisting of three members of the Georgia Guitar Quartet, with Phil Snyder on cello, Kyle Dawkins on guitars and electronics, and Brian Smith on guitars and electronics, will perform November 7.

The Bent Frequency Duo Project brings avant-garde to life through cross-disciplinary collaboration.

The Bent Frequency Duo Project, based in Atlanta, is Jan Baker Berry and Stuart Gerber. They have commissioned over twenty-five new pieces for saxophone and percussion and bring the avant-garde to life through cross-disciplinary collaboration.

The Vega Quartet Showcase is part of the Emory Youth Chamber Program.

January 30, 2022 brings the Vega Quartet Student Showcase to Sautee. These string quartets are a part of the Emory Youth Chamber Program. The musicians participate in masterclasses with the Vega String Quartet and represent the best of Atlanta’s young musicians.

All Cannon Classical Music Series performances are scheduled on Sundays at 4 PM and are followed by an artist meet-and-greet. Tickets are $25 for SNCA Members, $28 for Non-members, and $8 for Students.
