A year-long drug investigation in North Georgia landed one man in jail on drug trafficking charges. Authorities have also issued arrest warrants for his son.

On Nov. 8, multiple state and local law enforcement agencies conducted a raid on a residence in Blue Ridge where illegal drugs were allegedly being sold. While executing the search warrant, agents say they located and seized approximately 16 kilograms of methamphetamine, 906 grams of marijuana, 45 firearms, miscellaneous drug paraphernalia, and cash.

ARDEO Special Agent in Charge Trent Hillsman says the drugs have an estimated street value of $200,000.

Agents arrested 66-year-old Raymond Akins and charged him with numerous charges, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, trafficking in methamphetamine, and possession of drug-related objects. Agents also charged Akins with weapons charges. He faces 45 counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Deputies booked Akins into the Fannin County Detention Center. Additional arrest warrants were issued for his son, Cody Akins.

The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Community Supervision, FBI Conasuaga Safe Streets, and Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) all assisted with this investigation.

Hillsman says the investigation is ongoing.
