Two convicted felons are facing new charges following an investigation and drug raid in Toccoa.
The Toccoa Police Department Narcotics Unit and other law enforcement agencies served a search warrant early Friday morning on a residence at 386 South Pond Street. They arrested Brian Lamar Craft, 41, and Michelle Annette Chapman, 41, without incident.
The two are accused of selling methamphetamine and marijuana from the home. Their arrests followed a several months-long investigation.
A search of the residence turned up approximately seven ounces of meth, four ounces of marijuana, and three handguns, says Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize. He says one of the recovered handguns was stolen.
Police also seized cash that Mize says was derived from the sale of illegal drugs.
Officers charged Craft and Chapman with seven felony counts, including:
- trafficking methamphetamine;
- possession of marijuana with intent to distribute;
- felony possession of marijuana;
- possession of a firearm by a convicted felon;
- possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony;
- transactions in drug sales within 1000 feet of government housing;
- possession of a stolen firearm.
Craft was also arrested on an outstanding felony probation warrant.
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office, and FBI’s North Georgia Major Offenders Task Force assisted Toccoa Police in the April Fools’ Day raid. Afterward, Chief Mize extended his thanks.
