Authorities say a Stephens County toddler drowned Sunday in Lake Hartwell. County coroner Chris Stephens identified the child as 19-month Charlotte Elizabeth Scott.
According to the coroner, around 1:34 p.m. Sunday, a 911 caller alerted officials to the drowning in the area of Ridgemore Circle. Multiple agencies from Stephens and Oconee County, South Carolina, responded to the scene.
The Oconee County Emergency Services dive team recovered the girl’s body around 3:24 p.m. officials say. They have not released details as to how the drowning occurred.
Scott’s body is being transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Atlanta for an autopsy.
The drowning is being investigated by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office and Stephens County Coroner’s Office.
