UPDATE 18-year old killed, two others injured in wreck on Pea Ridge Road

The Georgia State Patrol has released the names of three other people involved in a fatal accident on Pea Ridge Road Thursday afternoon near Cornelia. 

The accident claimed the life of 18-year old Samantha Irene Williams of Alto.

The crash occurred at 5:12 pm. According to the Georgia State Patrol, a 2002 Chevrolet pickup, driven by 44-year old Gregory Clinton Purcell of Cornelia, was traveling south on Pea Ridge Road. A 1989 Oldsmobile Delta 88, driven by Williams was traveling north on Pea Ridge.

The Chevy pickup driven by Purcell attempted to turn left into a private driveway and failed to yield. The pickup struck the Oldsmobile head-on in the northbound lane of Pea Ridge Road.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. The pickup truck’s airbags deployed. There were no airbags in the car. Deputy Coroner Ken Franklin says Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

Purcell refused medical treatment.

Two passengers in Williams’ vehicle, 17-year old Jacob Donald Wheatley of Demorest and 17-year old Haley Nicole Davidson of Homer were both injured. They were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is investigating. The State Patrol says charges are pending.
