Traffic was temporarily stalled Friday on Athens Highway in Hall County when an 18-wheeler hauling frozen chicken overturned.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. on June 23. The wreck blocked the inside northbound lane at Bob Bryant Road. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office warned drivers heading into Gainesville on US 129/Athens Highway to expect “heavy delays.”

“Southbound motorists should expect rubbernecker delays,” the sheriff’s office said in a post about the wreck on social media.

Firefighters dealt with a minor fuel hazard at the scene as diesel dripped from the overturned semi.

“The leak was mitigated quickly, and the driver was able to exit the truck safely,” says Hall County Fire Rescue Public Information Officer Kimberlie Ledsinger.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

At 9 p.m., the sheriff’s office announced on social media that the road had fully reopened and thanked motorists “for enduring a difficult commute on 129.”
