State awards $6.45M for area road projects

Highway 197 road resurfacing project to be completed by August 2017

ATLANTA, Ga. (October 24, 2016) – Sen. John Wilkinson (R – Toccoa) announced this week, three Georgia Department of Transportation contracts awarded to Banks, Franklin and Habersham Counties totaling $6.45 million.

These projects include the construction of a bridge on SR 323 over Grove Creek in Banks County, resurfacing 9.97 miles of SR 106 starting at SR 59 in Franklin County and extending southeast and resurfacing 3.55 miles of SR 197 from US 23/US 441/SR419 to south of US 441 BU/SR 17 in Habersham County. The anticipated completion date of the projects in Franklin and Habersham Counties is August 2017, and the project in Banks County should be completed in April 2019.

Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has awarded 19 contracts for statewide construction and maintenance projects totaling $79.37 million. These projects were advertised for bids in August, bids were received in September and contracts were awarded on September 30.

“Creating new routes and maintaining our current roads are important for the safety and well-being of the residents of Senate District 50 and those traveling to and through our area,” said Sen. Wilkinson. “I look forward to seeing these projects and many more being completed.”
